    Crabgrass Prevention

    Grass
Spring is in the air. I know this because there was a smashed bug on my windshield the other night and this usually signifies a change of season; when the bugs return from the dormancy of winter. I am so ready, with several ice storms under my belt and many inches of snow finally melted it is that time again to focus on my yard!

According to Tim, the lawn guy, the end of February marks the time when fertilizer and weed control needs to be put down.  By applying Crabgrass preventer before the ground hits 50 degrees, you will prevent it from germinating when the ground warms up.  Come July/August when the temperatures hit 75/80 degrees it will grow like gangbusters if it has not been treated ahead of time. But if you did treat it, then you can simply spot treat any crabgrass that was missed.

There are all kinds of lawn service companies from Scott’s to Preen that are able to assist you with all your lawn care needs throughout the year. If you decide to do it yourself, most home improvement stores carry the products that are needed as well as the answers to many of your lawn care questions so don’t hesitate to ask.
