Lesley’s got problems with the deer:
Looks like I’ll be taking more trips to McNeil’s produce stand than I’d
intended this year. I may not be getting the bounty of home-grown
organic tomatoes that I’d hoped for after all. Despite spending $20 on
a bottle of "Liquid Fence" deer and rabbit repellent, it appears that
something broke into my tomato garden overnight and helped itself to a
good number of fruits I was hoping to enjoy in several weeks. This is
the repellent I was talked into buying because I was told blood meal
(which isn’t terribly veg-friendly, but neither is leather) could
attract coyotes in my West Nashville neighborhood.
Coyotes…rabbits…coyotes…deer…coyotes…or
tomatoes. I finally voted that it was not worth it to attract coyotes
to my yard. I don’t want to see them or any evidence of them,
thankyouverymuch.Whatever it was left the Roma and cherry
tomatoes alone (thankfully) as well as the larger Better Boys, but all
of my Early Girls were either eaten or left on a broken stem and it got
most of my Celebrity tomatoes as well.I just cannot win at this tomato thing.
I had issues with deer as well, when I had my garden in the backyard last year. This year I don’t seem to have quite the problems since I am growing my tomatoes in the front yard, in containers. (knock on wood!) The other thing I have to worry about is bunny rabbits. How can something so cute be so infuriating?
If you have any ideas for Lesley, hop on over and help her out.
