Over at May Dreams Gardens, there is the slightest beginning of a debate about purslane. Some commenters despise it, others like it. It must be easy to grow, because Carol says:
For new gardeners, or those unfamiliar with purslane, it is a pernicious weed of the worst sort, one that has tormented gardeners for generations. Once you have it, it is nearly impossible to get rid of it. Normally, I’d recommend a good hoeing,
but not with this weed! You can not hoe it under, as every little piece
of stem or leaf left in contact with the soil will root and grow again.
The only way to control it is to pull it out by hand, put it in a trash
bag and put it out at the curb for the trash collector.
However, purslane has some very good edible qualities. It has more Omega-3 fatty acids than any other leafy vegetable.
What do you think? Are you a lover of purslane, or a hater?

To me purslane is a weed. I think I would only eat it if I actually bought some seed for it and tried that kind. I don't know if it would be different than the weed in my garden, but at least I wouldn't feel like I was eating weeds!
