As I was driving all over creation yesterday, I was massively cheered to see the jonquils out everywhere. At least in Tennessee, and I bet elsewhere as well, they are the harbinger of spring. It’s coming, and the jonquils are here to let you know spring is just around the bend.
It couldn’t come too soon, either. February is so gray and dreary in Tennessee, and as miserably hot as I was last summer, I’m still looking forward to the hot weather coming back.
Spring, to me, is the most miraculous time of the year. This morning when I took my dog out, I saw the little hard-ball buds on my ornamental pear tree. Next thing you know, there’ll be flowers all over it, and then green leaves. I love how one day your tree will look like nothing and the next day it will be a riot of flowers. There are plenty of gradual things in this world, but the flowers are always sudden to me.
Of course, there has to be winter’s last hurrah, but spring is definitely around the corner. It can’t come quickly enough for me.
