I was just thinking about lilacs and how much I miss them. My dad says you can totally grow lilacs in Tennessee, but I’ve never had any luck with them. When I lived in Indiana, they were everywhere, and to me nothing said spring like the smell of lilacs. What flower really says "spring" to you?
Also, a bonus question for Tennesseeans: If you can get your lilacs to grow and not die, what could I possibly be doing wrong?

Spring to me - crocuses and daffodils. As far as the lilacs are concerned, all I've had to do was dig a hole and drop them in with some store-bought dirt. They take a few years to get big enough to blossom but one we transplanted from the old house last fall has started to bloom.
