Where did they come from? What is their history? The history of how Christmas trees came into vogue is quite interesting. The trees have German roots (pun totally intended) and made its way through Eurpoe and America. Here’s a good page on the history of the Christmas tree.
It’s been pretty rainy here in Nashville this November. Thankfully, since we’ve been in drought conditions for awhile. Could this be the beginning of the end of the drought? One certainly hopes so. I even saw snow flurries the other night- very unusual for this time of year in Tennessee.
I can’t say whether I’m hoping for lots of snow this winter or not- I enjoy looking at the snow, but hate driving in it. I suppose we’ll see as the winter progresses.

I’m seriously considering getting a live Christmas tree that I can plant in my yard after Christmas is over this year. I hear my church will be selling them, and I’m thinking this might be the way to go.
My entire adult life I have had fake Christmas trees because I always thought having a cut Christmas tree was awfully wasteful. When I was younger, my parents occasionally bought live Christmas trees that you can plant later, but until this year, I never really thought about that.
But I was looking at my yard and my neighbors’ yards and I got to thinking about how nice a pine tree might look. So this year, I’m thinking we might go that route. Well, it’ll save some time and arguments about putting the tree together, eh?
My cousin, the Hoosier, says beautiful leaves are long gone in Indiana. They’re still hanging on here, but by a thread. Luckily we have beautiful pictures to peruse still.

If you’re missing having a ton of beautiful flowers outside this time of year, here’s a neat tool to play with. It’s the BBC’s virtual garden. I played around with it for awhile and had a blast.
Tell me, Shak-ers, how are you staving off the gardening withdrawals?
