My dad and I were talking recently, and he threw me the idea he and my mom have been throwing around to buy a farm and do a veggie co-op. This sort of thing is right up my dad's alley, because there is not a plant anywhere that wouldn't grow for my dad. His thumb is so green, it….well, it's really green.
I joked with him that he just wanted to take winter off, and that's why he wants to do this. He then told me there are several vegetables you can grow in the winter, and he'd probably be trying it. So, I asked the internet whether you could grow vegetables in the winter and found this link to be really fascinating. Guess Dad won't be taking the winter off after all.
No laughing, Yankees. We take what we can get. Photo: Wimpy and Heather on Flickr

I always feel bad for the plants that get confused when we have a warm spell in January and start sprouting up. I want to tell them, "No, little plants, it's not time yet!" Alas, I don't have the ability to speak plant. Tonight, we're supposed to have ice and tomorrow, snow. Poor little sprouts.
It's finally somewhat warm today, so I'm going to head out here soon and trim my rose bush. Of course, I like to ask the internet how to do things before I do anything, and I found this good guide to rose bush trimming. Right on. Ask, and the internet will tell you how to do things. I love that.
Thinking about starting your seedlings? Check out this awesome grow box made from a Rubbermaid tote and LED Christmas lights. What a fab idea.
