    Making Mosquito Repellent from Scratch

We have mosquitoes about the size of birds in my part of the country. I love sitting outside, but at a certain point each year I’m driven indoors because of the pesky blood suckers.  I might have to try this homemade mosquito repellent,

Here’s what you’ll need: essential oils (citronella and lemongrass are musts, I also like lavender or you could use tea tree oil or geranium oil for tick protection), 14 oz. bottle of witch hazel (available in grocery stores & pharmacies usually close to the rubbing alcohol), a spray bottle (or two–one for home and one for the diaper bag/car), a jar for mixing, and a funnel.

    The Joys of Rhubarb

Though I had rhubarb pie but once and it has been decades, it may be time to try it once again since taste buds to mature and change.  Why in the world would I be inspired to do this?  From reading Caramelize Life’s article called The Barb Is On,

I’ve often heard folks describe rhubarb as a weed or make comments like, ‘what would I do with it?’ To which I respond, ‘I’d be happy to take that off your hands so it’s not in your way.’ I’ll never say no to free barb.

Rhubarb sauce over yogurt was a staple growing up as it is in our home now. We regularly harvest, beginning now, and make sauces for breakfast dishes, lunches and snacks. If the seed stalk is kept cut back, and you trim your barb as it ripens, you can keep a plant producing all summer long.

Break down and try it again, I might!

    Starry Path

When I get rich and can custom order items and have someone do the install, this project will be fifth on my list (it follows new roof, gutters, paint, and windows).  Okay, I’d probably put new floors and furniture ahead of it, too.  Still this is an amazing fibre optic sidewalk.

    From Starscape,

“You may be interested to know that we encased the harness in a hosepipe as you suggested, up to a central distribution point (the standard hosepipe is slightly narrow but it was easy to cut down it and them re-bind it with waterproof tape. We then encased each fibre (singles, twos and a few threes) in electrical earth sheathing, which protected the fibres from the hosepipe end until they entered holes drilled in the slabs (diameter of the sheathing) and also held them vertical in the slab holes.”

    Absolutely stunning!
