I used to imagine that if I got stuck living hand-to-mouth, I would be a strong survivor!  No plant or animal or weather incident would defeat me in that cave I would have found to live in. Ha!  The reality is that I’d be like the girl on Hunger Games and eat that poison berry by accident.

But for you, let’s give you a lesson on what you can and can’t eat in the wild.  This is a long video, but helpful!

I have a friend who is somewhat unusual.  She describes herself as a decorator, but her taste definitely runs to the eclectic so I’m not sure how well she does in the decor business.

Her yard is one to behold, though.  She and her family have worked hard to build a 12 foot fountain in the front.   In the remainder of the yard, we see her art work on display.  She has a combination of the wood cut outs of old people bent over gardening, Christmas snowmen, penguins, presents, and nativity scenes.  Wooden yard art can be very cute, but then again – everything in moderation is acceptable to me.

My only yard art is the American flag and a cross from Home Interior hanging on my porch.  I was doing a friend a favor by buying it.  I have some flowers and lots of trees.  I’d like to find tree faces to put on my bigger trees someday, but overall unless it’s something grown by mother nature, less is best.

PopFi presents us with this monstrosity. I’d kill a neighbor over less. Yikes.

Another one of those “better when grown together” type things is the “Three Sisters” garden- growing corn, squash, and beans together on a mounded hill. Why is it called “Three Sisters”? Hit the link to find out more.

One of the things I love most about living in the South is having magnolia trees.

Sometimes I stumble onto things where I just can’t add much commentary. I stumbled across this picture of a square watermelon, apparently grown inside a box. Why anyone would want a square watermelon is beyond me, but it’s still awfully cool. Imagine taking that to your next company picnic.

For people wanting a greenhouse but not having a ton of funds, this is the way to go. There is a great tutorial here with lots of pictures, plus other posts about building the doors, and what they’d do differently in hindsight.
