    Groundhogs Not Welcome Here

My yard has moles.  My dogs love digging holes in the yard to try to get to them.  They’ve upturned bricks on our sidewalk.  They’ve pitted our yard, as well.  But at least they are not groundhogs!

Under the Lobsterscope is having a war with a groundhog in his backyard.  So far the groundhog is winning,

However… the groundhog made me look stupid when I checked the trap this morning. It had eaten the bait trail right up to the trap’s open door, but did not enter the trap to get to the bait inside… just past the trigger mechanism. Double Bummer.

Good luck there. I hope you get the rascal!

    Backyard Bear v. Zucchini

I fought the bear and the zucchini won.  In Montana a zucchini can whoop a bear’s behind!  From PopFi,

She saved her life with a summer squash.  More importantly, if you pelt a bear with vegetables, it will leave and you won’t have to shoot it on your back porch.  No need to grab a knife or hurl a butcher block, just grab some veggies and start chucking!  The woman did not need medical attention.

We went on vacation several years ago in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.  One damp morning we saw bear footprints on our front deck.  That was enough to give me a healthy respect for how close wild animals can easily get next to you.
